A Tax Holiday

I’m hoping many of you have heard the latest idea on how to spend the remaining $350 billion that’s left from the massive $700 billion bailout.

Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) has proposed that we use remaining $350 billion dollars to give people a 2-month tax holiday. Imagine having 8-weeks of pay with any federal deductions on your taxes!!!! Take your current take home pay, multiply it by.66. Add the two figures together and that is what you’d take home on your paycheck for January & February. For example:

  • If your take home pay is $1,000 a week, you’d take home $1,660 a week during the tax holiday. That’s an additional $660.
  • If your take home pay is $1,500 a week, you’d take home $2,490 a week during the tax holiday. That’s an additional $990.

Multiply these figures by the number of paychecks you would receive during the two month period to calculate your take home income during the tax holiday. For example:

  • If your take home pay is $1,000 a week, you’d take home $1,660 a week during the tax holiday. That’s an additional $660  a week. Multiply that by eight weeks, you’d have an extra $5,280 in your pocket over a two month period.
  • If your take home pay is $1,500 a week, you’d take home $2,490 a week during the tax holiday. That’s an additional $990. Multiply that by eight weeks and you’d have an extra $7,920 in your pocket over the two month holiday.

Imagine what you could do with an additional $5,280 in your pocket!!!!!

This leaves us with one fundamental question. Why should the government continue to give billions of dollars to CEO’s and people who have already mismanaged billions of dollars? What makes the government think they won’t mismanage it again?

The bailout money was designed to open up the credit markets so we can get new automobiles, houses, start businesses, etc…. Instead, banks have been hoarding the money and using it to funds bonuses, executive salaries or create monopolies by buying out businesses.

Imagine what the tax holiday could do for the people. It would likely do the following:

  • People could pay their mortgage for 2 or three months, reducing the number of foreclosures.
  • People could now make a  bigger down payment on a house, allowing people to continue to live the American dream while increasing the number of home sales. This in turn would lead to economic improvement by mitigating the effects of the sub-prime mortgage crisis.
  • People could afford to refinance their mortgage, reducing the number of foreclosures.
  • People could make a down payment on their automobiles. In some cases, they could buy the car outright. Combine this with a tax credit for those buying American automobiles, it could save the Big Three.
  • People can save their money, giving banks more liquidity so they can approve loans for those who can pay it back.
  • People will buy with their disposable income. All extra money is disposable income. Business profits rise, stick prices rise and the economy shows signs of improvement.
  • Those who need the money will finally get it, leading to guaranteed immediate results as opposed to waiting 12-18 months to SEE if the bailout really worked.
  • Democracy and capitalism is saved, preventing a catastrophic shift to socialism and over dependency on the government.
  • Instead of allocating this money an hoping business can pay it back, the government gets to hold onto this $350 billion to fund other worthy programs.

If all of the above were to happen, the need for bigger bailout would be reduced and the debt burden to be placed on your children and grandchildren would be greatly reduced, allowing them to enjoy the American ideals we have today.

This plan is almost too good to be true. The problem is that it is created by a Republican in a Democratically controlled Congress. It is up to you, the American people, to write your Congressman and see to it that this bailout be passed. Do you want your money to go to businesses that have already mismanaged enough of your hard earned money? Wouldn’t you like to take home an additional $5,280 to use at your discretion. Then write your Congressman and ask them to pass Rep. Gohmert’s bill.

Be Thankful to President Bush This Thanksgiving

As Isit here watching the horrific attacks on Mumbai, my first thought was, this will never happen under President Bush’s watch or the watch of any Republican for that matter. My second thought quickly became a worry about whether or not this could happen to us under an Obama administration. My final thought was that while unpopular, we do have some things that we should be thankful to President Bush on this Thanksgiving.

Thank you for keeping us safe.

Since 9/11, President Bush has taken a hardline on terrorism. He went to Afghanistan and removed the Al-Qaeda sympathizing Taliban from power. Osama bin Laden and his supporters are constantly on the run and hiding in exile. He went to Iraq and ensured it wasn’t going to be a breeding ground for terrorists. He’s kept Iran & North Korea in check. He’s made sure that the usually unreliable Pakistani government wasn’t helping the Islamic Fundamentalists.

His efforts have allowed the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to intercept numerous planned attacks. His efforts kept national security out of the Presidential campaign. This is a good legacy to have after 8 years.

If Osama bin Laden had known this would be our response, do you think he would have launched the 9/11 attacks? I think not.

Thank you for cutting our taxes and helping stimulate the economy.

The Bush tax cuts and economic stimulus have allowed us to enjoy some prosperity. It also helped us stay in our homes for longer and let us determine what the best use of our money is. When our taxes go up to help the poor remain lazy, you will be thanking him later on. It wasn’t him that allowed the credit crisis to occur, it was the Democratic leadership (Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd) that refused to listen to a Republican president and failed to provide the necessary oversight to prevent this from happening.

Thank you for defending capitalism.

Bush never waivered on American business. He understood that businesses are the key that starts the economic engine and has done everything in his power to ensure that the market system we currently employed stayed intact. Every President since Nixon has understood the importance of fiscal conservatism, limited government intervention and the need to ensure business have the necessary tools to build the economy.

He may not be the most intellectual, but he saw how socialism killed economies in Cuba, Soviet Union, Vietnam and China when they were hardcore Communist. He saw why they needed to implement some capitalist reforms in that country. He knew we were the example to follow and that was brought home.

Thank you for supporting the troops.

Fighting in battle is not easy and we can’t always put them in a position to win. But you’ve molded them into a group we should be thankful to and you’ve made them more proud to fight for this country than LBJ did 40 years ago.

Thank you for maintaining our freedoms while spreading the beauty of freedom throughout the world.

The President rules over 5% of the world’s population while protecting 100%. Iraq is more free, relations with China are better, we are constantly working with other nations to ensure diplomacy, freedom and human rights. We have freed millions from dictatorial rule.

Finally, Thank you for defending the Constitution.

You’ve constantly reminded people what it means to be an American. We know we have to be a defender of both the freedoms of Americans and the freedoms of all across the world. You’ve kept reminding us that being an American is not easy and while some may not be proud to be an American, they should be for nowhere else can they have that right to be dissatisfied with their government.

You have defended the Constitution and its words proudly, you have limited government intervention on our lives and you have constantly reminded us of what it truly means to be an American.

I may not agree with all of his actions, but I am no one reading this has been a victim of terrorism since 9/11 and you have been able to choose what you do with most of your money while having more freedoms than can be imagined.

Please, be thankful to President Bush this Thanksgiving. He is the reason you’re not fearing Islamic fundamentalists on the Homeland.

Is There Really Change?

How many times have we seen the slogan “Change You Can Count On?” How often have you seen it in practice when it comes to the “chosen one”, President-elect Barack Obama?

The answer is you haven’t seen it yet? When a man bases his primary campaign bashing Hillary & Bill Clinton to win the nomination, why is he filling his Cabinet with old Clintonistas like Rahm Emanuel and potentially Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta? Why is the hard left angry that he isn’t putting super liberals in power for reasons other than the simple fact that they are usually wrong and out of touch. All offense to Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, etc….

Prophet Obama wins the primary and spends the next few months preaching about Bush’s failed 8 years and how we need to fix all his errors. His ace in the hole was how the administration mismanaged the war in Iraq. If this is the case, why is Robert Gates still the Secretary of Defense? Isn’t he the top guy in the Pentagon? Doesn’t he help manage the war? Why haven’t we heard of a timetable that Obama proposed? Why is the closing of Guantanamo Bay becoming quieter by the minute?

Also, why has he backed off on his stance regarding the expiration of the Bush tax cuts?

Where’s all this change? Is it the radicals hope that Obama will make the change from capitalism to socialism? Is it the hope that instead of preserving the unregulated capitalism that made us prosperous, we move to a system in which the government is involved in every aspect of your life, including what you listen to on the radio with the Fairness Doctrine. Even JFK knew that unbridled capitalism was the answer.

Folks, we’re not seeing the changes he’s campaigned about. You have been hoodwinked just like many poor Europeans were sucked into the nationalistic fervor of change in the 1930’s. There will be change, but not the change you voted for.

Obama Screw-Up #1

News has come out this week about President-Elect Obama’s desire to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay. As you may know, we have 255 detainees and suspected terrorists there.

Why does this man want to close the prison? Does William Ayers and Mr. Khalidi need need new neighbors now that Obama is moving to Pennsylvania? Does the University of Chicago need new liberal radical to teach their classes? How much will these suspect terrorists donate to the corrupt political machine?

These terrorists are being detained in an effort to stop the spread of terrorism and protect us from another attack. Where will these detainees go? Will we continue to keep them or will we send them back to Iraq in a terrorist for white-flag exchange program? Maybe they’ll become his friends and they will be pardoned and given amnesty.

This action will have no positive. You will see President Bush pardon everyone (and I mean every single person) involved in the operations at Guantanamo Bay on January 19th. We will be at a greater risk of attack and Obama will be in dereliction of duty for he is failing to protect this country.

Think about the water boarding of Sheik Mohammed. Was it rough? Yes. Was it necessary? Yes. Thank to this and other tough tactics taken on by our soldiers, the one who gives their lives so we can enjoy ours, allowed us to stop many terrorist plots before they were carried out.

So here is the critical question. Which is more important, protecting this nation from terrorists at all costs or protecting these terrorist rights so they can once again act on their hatred?

President-elect Obama better think twice before erasing EVERYTHING Bush did. He did do some good.

Jarrett Not Likely the Replacement

News has it that President – Elect Obama wants Valerie Jarrett to replace him in the Senate. This is nice, yet arrogant and is filled with a few fallacies.

First, it is not Obama’s decision, it is the Governor of Illinois. There is this thing called separation of powers & checks and balances. Obama should know that as he jumps from one branch to the other.

Second, the governor of Illinois is a Republican. Why would a Republican governor appoint a Democrat to the Senate and bring them closer to a filibuster proof majority?

I suspect that a Republican will be appointed Senator preventing a 60-seat majority.

The Supreme Court Is NOT An Issue In This Election

Ladies and Gentlemen:

As I was watching this week’s debate there was a discussion regarding the nomination of Supreme Court Justices and the types of people that would be selected under each administration. McCain & Obama said their pieces and Obama went on to have a discussion on abortion and the right to choose.

What people forget is that nothing is really going to change under either administration. Here’s why:

If Barack Obama wins:

If this happens, the liberal leaning justices will either stay on the court or be replaced by liberal leaning justices. These justices wold then be easily confirmed by the Senate. The conservative justices would refuse to retire, basically staying on until they die. The oldest justices on the Supreme Court are generally liberal (Stevens, Ginsburg, Breyer), the oldest conservative is  Scalia who is 72 (older than Breyer), so death is not likely.

If John McCain wins:

If McCain wins, liberal justices would likely stay on, but because they have an older average age and a more likely to die. If McCain were to nominate a conservative justice, a democratically controlled Senate (this is a lock for 2008) would block this appointment, forcing McCain to choose a more moderate justice, preferably one that will not overturn Roe v. Wade. This would happen for any justice needing replacement.

So, no matter who wins this election, you will not see a major change in the composition of the Supreme Court. When voting, do not us the nomination process as a factor in your choice because nothing will be changed, regardless of who wins.

1960 v. 2008 Elections

As this long, long election winds to an end I can’t help but notice the comparisons between the 2008 Election and the 1960 Presidential Election.

Both elections had a charismatic, bullshitting Democratic candidate (‘60 JFK; ‘08 Obama).

Both elections had haggard, old-looking Republicans (Nixon v. McCain)

Both Democrats had to choose powerful Senators as their Vice-Presidents to cover up their inabilities and make up for lack of respect by their colleagues. JFK had LBJ, Obama has Biden.

Both Republicans seemed better on foreign policy than on domestic policy.

Both Democrats are somehow connected to the Chicago machine and organizations participating in voter fraud.

Both Democrats enjoy a media bias. JFK was given the debate questions before hand, McCain was shown scowling at all of Obama’s answers and Keith Olbermann, Campbell Brown and Paul Begala looking to fry him over the coals. Hillary Rosen’s bitchiness doesn’t hurt either.

Both Democrats have very questionable connections. JFK and the other Kennedys had rumrunner money and criminals ready to help them out, Obama has terrorists and radical who happen to be neighbors. Does anybody else find it odd that all left-wing radicals teach at the University of Chicago and live in the same neighborhood.

Both Democrats are making promises they can’t keep.

Both elections have Americans facing a widespread enemy. In 1960 it was the Communists, in 2008 it is the terrorists.

Both elections had Republicans being realistic in their goals while the Democrats were promising the world while failing to tell you how much your taxes would go up in the process.

The only major differences is that a woman is a VP candidate and the Democratic nominee is half black.

The only question is, will American fall for the same bullshit like we did in 1960?

Why McCain Failed While Winning

I think it was safe to say that McCain won tonight’s debate. Obama could afford the luxury of losing this one since he was ahead in the polls.

However, McCain was stilla  big failure tonight. While his answers on the economy were sharp and crisp and he owned Obama in the first half-hour, things went sour after that question regarding negative campaigning. I’ll tackle that question in another post.

John McCain needed to break through and come up with a memorable performance that would put him on level ground with Obama. I feel he seriously failed to do that tonight. While he id a wonderful job in telling Obama that he “is not President Bush” he failed to warn the American people of an unchecked Obama, Pelosi, Reid administration.

He did a great job in attack the liberals tax and spend policies but scared away some independents on the Roe v. Wade question. Again a non-issue, I’ll tell you why in the later postings.

McCain had some goals he needed to achieve and he failed in the following objectives.

1. He needed to make a better connection between his friendship with William Ayers and terrorism. He let Obama distance himself from Ayers and never fully challenged him on that relationship. Obama was able to escape this friendship by saying he will never advise me in the White House. McCain should have used this opportunity to talk about ALL of Obama’s shady acquaintances.

NOTE: McCain did an excellent job in bring up Obama’s contributions to ACORN and Obama never really addressed it.

2. He never blamed the Democrats for the crisis and never said he’d go and get them. He only alluded to the anger of Americans, but he never used that to his advantage. He has 19 days to fix this.

3. Nothing new really came out of this. He needed to propose new programs that would invigorate the voters and his campaign. We really didn’t hear anything new. Too much of the same old stuff.

4. Obama’s leadership, lack of national experience & lack of Senatorial significance was never mentioned. McCain has led committees, written key pieces of legislation. That legisation was never mentioned and McCain never took any opportunities to slam him on his shortcomings.

5. He acted more like an angry old man. The split screen shots killed him!!! Whenever Obama spoke, he’d look angry and haggard. This reminded me of 1960 (another post). The Obama campaign, if smart, will expose McCain as an angry president if he were to be elected. His anger will be misconstrued for his reactoins are caused by a deep dedication and beliefs in his ideas.

6. He kept wanting apologies for the negative things said. Granted, Obama never repudiated Lewis’ statement, but McCain didn’t do so for Palin and others either. I though this was a dumb question created by the media to throw McCain off and it really had nothing to do with the campaign. McCain would have been better off by refusing to answer it and asking Schieffer to move on to the next relevant point.

7. I saw no signs of being a maverick. Isn’t that who he is?

I thought McCain won the debate. Obama was flat, he did get a little rattled by McCain’s statements and his answers weren’t as crsip as they normally are. McCain should have exploited this by using the style over substance argument.  McCain needed to do a number of things as stated in this and my previous post and he failed to do so.

He has 19 days to write the ship if he wants to be President. He may get a slight bump, but he failed to take advantage of key opportunities.

More postings to come later.

What McCain Needs To Do

While James Carville thinks this race is dead, I am not willing to start a movement that will disenfranchise the voters. I will agree that McCain is down, but not out. He has one more chance to reach a large group of Americans before the November 4th election. Here is what he needs to do in order to take the Oval Office in January.

1. Attack, attack, attack!!! Being civil will no longer help you.

2. Bring out the connection between Obama and domestic terrorist William Ayers. We are still sensitive from 9/11. The debate is the perfect opportunity to make this connection without any media bias. Even though Obama says they were friends when he was 8, Michelle Obama stated that they served on boards together when she was on Larry King live. You need to make a strong connection between Obama and terrorism. Americans do not like friends of terrorists.

3. Attack Michelle Obama. Last year this womas was not proud to be an American. All of a sudden she is proud when faced with the possibility of not having to do housework, cooking or cleaning for the next 4 years. Give me a break.

4. Make the Republican connection with safety. Republicans have kept this country safe for 7 years. When the Democrats took their eye off of Al-Qaeda in 2000, they attacked in 2001. Connect this fact with the issue regarding Obama’s stance on diplomacy and his friendship with Ayers. If simple air strikes didn’t work after the embassy bombings in Africa in 2000, why would they work in 2009 or 2010. You need to correlate a Democrat government with an increase likelihood of attack. Use the fear tactic, call a Democrat administration one that is prone to attack.

5. I must admit, I’m stealing this point from Bill O’Reilly, but it’s a dam good point. Get angry!!!! Tell the American people that with Rudy Giuliani as your attorney general and Mitt Romney as your Treasury secretary you will go after and criminally prosecute the sons of bitches responsible for this crisis. This includes the head of the banking committees Barney Frank & Chris Dodd.

6. Blame the Democrats for this crisis. Obama has made it all too easy to connect McCain with Bush and blame them for the crisis when in fact the Democratically controlled Congress allowed for he lack of oversight to continue after McCain and other Republicans warned them of a potential problem. He needs to connect this crisis with Frank & Dodd in order to turn the tables.

7. Question Obama’s leadership. What has he led? Nothing!!! He does not chair a committee, he has not written any landmark legislation and has only been in national government for less than 3 years. He has used the Senate as a stepping stone to the Presidency and lacks the understanding of how government works. McCain needs to let the people know about how his program are SO idealistic that they would be impossible to achieve in American government. Use the phrase “promises that will never be kept”.

8. Demonstrate your substance over your style.

9. Dump the bipartisan lingo. No one cares if their President can make nice with the opposite party. We want someone who will fight for America and do what is right. You’re not elected to make friends, you’re elected to make our individual situations better within 4 years, if not sooner.

10. If you are the Maverick, be the maverick. We have yet to see it. See my next point.

11. Finally, act like the underdog. McCain is the underdog. When he was the underdog in the GOP primary, he was at his best, coming from behind to win the nomination. He needs to take on the same strategies that he used at the beginning of the year. This is when we get to see the real John McCain. Screw the base, he already has their vote and Sarah Palin is there to make sure of that.

If all else fails, you (or one of your supporters without your knowledge) can call Obama by the following names:

  • Baracki Obama
  • Obama bin Laden
  • Baracki Hussein Obama bin Laden (the axis of evil)
  • Baracki Osama
  • any other derivative of these names.

John McCain is down, but not out. If he can’t following these strategies, it might be over and the leftist pundits (Carville, Campbell Brown, Hillary Rosen, Paul Begala, etc…) may have reached their goal of disenfranchising enough swing voters to tip the scales in Obama’s favor.

AIG, Again???

Filed under: Economics, Politics, Uncategorized — Tom Peters @ 5:51 pm
Tags: , , , , ,

It wamicss just announce that the Federal Reserve is going to give AIG another 34.7 BILLION dollars. Supposedly, they’ve already drawn on the $85 BILLION they received a few weeks ago.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE???

The government just authorized $700 BILLION for bailout American banks & industry and another $120 BILLION to one company alone. Do the math!!!! that’s $820 BILLION dollars.

Why is AIG being given more money? where exactly did the other $85 BILLION dollars go?? Why are we giving away money to CEO’s who can’t follow common sense. These people have advanced degrees, MBA’s and more. Yet they act with the arrogance and stupidity because they know that the federal government will bail them out.

I want answers. I want to know line-by-line where that money went. I want to know why the federal government felt $85 BILLION wasn’t enough. I want to know why the federal government failed to account for the possibility that this money wasn’t enough. I want to know what windfalls these CEO’s get. How you get a bonus when your company is failing to make profits is way beyond me. I wish I got money to screw up, but I’m not a professional athlete, weatherman of CEO of a Wall St. business. I want to know what strings are going to be attached to this money. To give 1 company $120 BILLION dollars without any strings is pure thievery. Finally, I want to know how much more money AIG is going to bilk from the federal government.

I’m pissed. I’m sure some of you are pissed and damn it we want answers!!!
