As Isit here watching the horrific attacks on Mumbai, my first thought was, this will never happen under President Bush’s watch or the watch of any Republican for that matter. My second thought quickly became a worry about whether or not this could happen to us under an Obama administration. My final thought was that while unpopular, we do have some things that we should be thankful to President Bush on this Thanksgiving.
Thank you for keeping us safe.
Since 9/11, President Bush has taken a hardline on terrorism. He went to Afghanistan and removed the Al-Qaeda sympathizing Taliban from power. Osama bin Laden and his supporters are constantly on the run and hiding in exile. He went to Iraq and ensured it wasn’t going to be a breeding ground for terrorists. He’s kept Iran & North Korea in check. He’s made sure that the usually unreliable Pakistani government wasn’t helping the Islamic Fundamentalists.
His efforts have allowed the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to intercept numerous planned attacks. His efforts kept national security out of the Presidential campaign. This is a good legacy to have after 8 years.
If Osama bin Laden had known this would be our response, do you think he would have launched the 9/11 attacks? I think not.
Thank you for cutting our taxes and helping stimulate the economy.
The Bush tax cuts and economic stimulus have allowed us to enjoy some prosperity. It also helped us stay in our homes for longer and let us determine what the best use of our money is. When our taxes go up to help the poor remain lazy, you will be thanking him later on. It wasn’t him that allowed the credit crisis to occur, it was the Democratic leadership (Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd) that refused to listen to a Republican president and failed to provide the necessary oversight to prevent this from happening.
Thank you for defending capitalism.
Bush never waivered on American business. He understood that businesses are the key that starts the economic engine and has done everything in his power to ensure that the market system we currently employed stayed intact. Every President since Nixon has understood the importance of fiscal conservatism, limited government intervention and the need to ensure business have the necessary tools to build the economy.
He may not be the most intellectual, but he saw how socialism killed economies in Cuba, Soviet Union, Vietnam and China when they were hardcore Communist. He saw why they needed to implement some capitalist reforms in that country. He knew we were the example to follow and that was brought home.
Thank you for supporting the troops.
Fighting in battle is not easy and we can’t always put them in a position to win. But you’ve molded them into a group we should be thankful to and you’ve made them more proud to fight for this country than LBJ did 40 years ago.
Thank you for maintaining our freedoms while spreading the beauty of freedom throughout the world.
The President rules over 5% of the world’s population while protecting 100%. Iraq is more free, relations with China are better, we are constantly working with other nations to ensure diplomacy, freedom and human rights. We have freed millions from dictatorial rule.
Finally, Thank you for defending the Constitution.
You’ve constantly reminded people what it means to be an American. We know we have to be a defender of both the freedoms of Americans and the freedoms of all across the world. You’ve kept reminding us that being an American is not easy and while some may not be proud to be an American, they should be for nowhere else can they have that right to be dissatisfied with their government.
You have defended the Constitution and its words proudly, you have limited government intervention on our lives and you have constantly reminded us of what it truly means to be an American.
I may not agree with all of his actions, but I am no one reading this has been a victim of terrorism since 9/11 and you have been able to choose what you do with most of your money while having more freedoms than can be imagined.
Please, be thankful to President Bush this Thanksgiving. He is the reason you’re not fearing Islamic fundamentalists on the Homeland.
