A Tax Holiday

I’m hoping many of you have heard the latest idea on how to spend the remaining $350 billion that’s left from the massive $700 billion bailout.

Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) has proposed that we use remaining $350 billion dollars to give people a 2-month tax holiday. Imagine having 8-weeks of pay with any federal deductions on your taxes!!!! Take your current take home pay, multiply it by.66. Add the two figures together and that is what you’d take home on your paycheck for January & February. For example:

  • If your take home pay is $1,000 a week, you’d take home $1,660 a week during the tax holiday. That’s an additional $660.
  • If your take home pay is $1,500 a week, you’d take home $2,490 a week during the tax holiday. That’s an additional $990.

Multiply these figures by the number of paychecks you would receive during the two month period to calculate your take home income during the tax holiday. For example:

  • If your take home pay is $1,000 a week, you’d take home $1,660 a week during the tax holiday. That’s an additional $660  a week. Multiply that by eight weeks, you’d have an extra $5,280 in your pocket over a two month period.
  • If your take home pay is $1,500 a week, you’d take home $2,490 a week during the tax holiday. That’s an additional $990. Multiply that by eight weeks and you’d have an extra $7,920 in your pocket over the two month holiday.

Imagine what you could do with an additional $5,280 in your pocket!!!!!

This leaves us with one fundamental question. Why should the government continue to give billions of dollars to CEO’s and people who have already mismanaged billions of dollars? What makes the government think they won’t mismanage it again?

The bailout money was designed to open up the credit markets so we can get new automobiles, houses, start businesses, etc…. Instead, banks have been hoarding the money and using it to funds bonuses, executive salaries or create monopolies by buying out businesses.

Imagine what the tax holiday could do for the people. It would likely do the following:

  • People could pay their mortgage for 2 or three months, reducing the number of foreclosures.
  • People could now make a  bigger down payment on a house, allowing people to continue to live the American dream while increasing the number of home sales. This in turn would lead to economic improvement by mitigating the effects of the sub-prime mortgage crisis.
  • People could afford to refinance their mortgage, reducing the number of foreclosures.
  • People could make a down payment on their automobiles. In some cases, they could buy the car outright. Combine this with a tax credit for those buying American automobiles, it could save the Big Three.
  • People can save their money, giving banks more liquidity so they can approve loans for those who can pay it back.
  • People will buy with their disposable income. All extra money is disposable income. Business profits rise, stick prices rise and the economy shows signs of improvement.
  • Those who need the money will finally get it, leading to guaranteed immediate results as opposed to waiting 12-18 months to SEE if the bailout really worked.
  • Democracy and capitalism is saved, preventing a catastrophic shift to socialism and over dependency on the government.
  • Instead of allocating this money an hoping business can pay it back, the government gets to hold onto this $350 billion to fund other worthy programs.

If all of the above were to happen, the need for bigger bailout would be reduced and the debt burden to be placed on your children and grandchildren would be greatly reduced, allowing them to enjoy the American ideals we have today.

This plan is almost too good to be true. The problem is that it is created by a Republican in a Democratically controlled Congress. It is up to you, the American people, to write your Congressman and see to it that this bailout be passed. Do you want your money to go to businesses that have already mismanaged enough of your hard earned money? Wouldn’t you like to take home an additional $5,280 to use at your discretion. Then write your Congressman and ask them to pass Rep. Gohmert’s bill.

Be Thankful to President Bush This Thanksgiving

As Isit here watching the horrific attacks on Mumbai, my first thought was, this will never happen under President Bush’s watch or the watch of any Republican for that matter. My second thought quickly became a worry about whether or not this could happen to us under an Obama administration. My final thought was that while unpopular, we do have some things that we should be thankful to President Bush on this Thanksgiving.

Thank you for keeping us safe.

Since 9/11, President Bush has taken a hardline on terrorism. He went to Afghanistan and removed the Al-Qaeda sympathizing Taliban from power. Osama bin Laden and his supporters are constantly on the run and hiding in exile. He went to Iraq and ensured it wasn’t going to be a breeding ground for terrorists. He’s kept Iran & North Korea in check. He’s made sure that the usually unreliable Pakistani government wasn’t helping the Islamic Fundamentalists.

His efforts have allowed the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to intercept numerous planned attacks. His efforts kept national security out of the Presidential campaign. This is a good legacy to have after 8 years.

If Osama bin Laden had known this would be our response, do you think he would have launched the 9/11 attacks? I think not.

Thank you for cutting our taxes and helping stimulate the economy.

The Bush tax cuts and economic stimulus have allowed us to enjoy some prosperity. It also helped us stay in our homes for longer and let us determine what the best use of our money is. When our taxes go up to help the poor remain lazy, you will be thanking him later on. It wasn’t him that allowed the credit crisis to occur, it was the Democratic leadership (Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd) that refused to listen to a Republican president and failed to provide the necessary oversight to prevent this from happening.

Thank you for defending capitalism.

Bush never waivered on American business. He understood that businesses are the key that starts the economic engine and has done everything in his power to ensure that the market system we currently employed stayed intact. Every President since Nixon has understood the importance of fiscal conservatism, limited government intervention and the need to ensure business have the necessary tools to build the economy.

He may not be the most intellectual, but he saw how socialism killed economies in Cuba, Soviet Union, Vietnam and China when they were hardcore Communist. He saw why they needed to implement some capitalist reforms in that country. He knew we were the example to follow and that was brought home.

Thank you for supporting the troops.

Fighting in battle is not easy and we can’t always put them in a position to win. But you’ve molded them into a group we should be thankful to and you’ve made them more proud to fight for this country than LBJ did 40 years ago.

Thank you for maintaining our freedoms while spreading the beauty of freedom throughout the world.

The President rules over 5% of the world’s population while protecting 100%. Iraq is more free, relations with China are better, we are constantly working with other nations to ensure diplomacy, freedom and human rights. We have freed millions from dictatorial rule.

Finally, Thank you for defending the Constitution.

You’ve constantly reminded people what it means to be an American. We know we have to be a defender of both the freedoms of Americans and the freedoms of all across the world. You’ve kept reminding us that being an American is not easy and while some may not be proud to be an American, they should be for nowhere else can they have that right to be dissatisfied with their government.

You have defended the Constitution and its words proudly, you have limited government intervention on our lives and you have constantly reminded us of what it truly means to be an American.

I may not agree with all of his actions, but I am no one reading this has been a victim of terrorism since 9/11 and you have been able to choose what you do with most of your money while having more freedoms than can be imagined.

Please, be thankful to President Bush this Thanksgiving. He is the reason you’re not fearing Islamic fundamentalists on the Homeland.

Is There Really Change?

How many times have we seen the slogan “Change You Can Count On?” How often have you seen it in practice when it comes to the “chosen one”, President-elect Barack Obama?

The answer is you haven’t seen it yet? When a man bases his primary campaign bashing Hillary & Bill Clinton to win the nomination, why is he filling his Cabinet with old Clintonistas like Rahm Emanuel and potentially Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta? Why is the hard left angry that he isn’t putting super liberals in power for reasons other than the simple fact that they are usually wrong and out of touch. All offense to Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, etc….

Prophet Obama wins the primary and spends the next few months preaching about Bush’s failed 8 years and how we need to fix all his errors. His ace in the hole was how the administration mismanaged the war in Iraq. If this is the case, why is Robert Gates still the Secretary of Defense? Isn’t he the top guy in the Pentagon? Doesn’t he help manage the war? Why haven’t we heard of a timetable that Obama proposed? Why is the closing of Guantanamo Bay becoming quieter by the minute?

Also, why has he backed off on his stance regarding the expiration of the Bush tax cuts?

Where’s all this change? Is it the radicals hope that Obama will make the change from capitalism to socialism? Is it the hope that instead of preserving the unregulated capitalism that made us prosperous, we move to a system in which the government is involved in every aspect of your life, including what you listen to on the radio with the Fairness Doctrine. Even JFK knew that unbridled capitalism was the answer.

Folks, we’re not seeing the changes he’s campaigned about. You have been hoodwinked just like many poor Europeans were sucked into the nationalistic fervor of change in the 1930’s. There will be change, but not the change you voted for.

Obama Screw-Up #1

News has come out this week about President-Elect Obama’s desire to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay. As you may know, we have 255 detainees and suspected terrorists there.

Why does this man want to close the prison? Does William Ayers and Mr. Khalidi need need new neighbors now that Obama is moving to Pennsylvania? Does the University of Chicago need new liberal radical to teach their classes? How much will these suspect terrorists donate to the corrupt political machine?

These terrorists are being detained in an effort to stop the spread of terrorism and protect us from another attack. Where will these detainees go? Will we continue to keep them or will we send them back to Iraq in a terrorist for white-flag exchange program? Maybe they’ll become his friends and they will be pardoned and given amnesty.

This action will have no positive. You will see President Bush pardon everyone (and I mean every single person) involved in the operations at Guantanamo Bay on January 19th. We will be at a greater risk of attack and Obama will be in dereliction of duty for he is failing to protect this country.

Think about the water boarding of Sheik Mohammed. Was it rough? Yes. Was it necessary? Yes. Thank to this and other tough tactics taken on by our soldiers, the one who gives their lives so we can enjoy ours, allowed us to stop many terrorist plots before they were carried out.

So here is the critical question. Which is more important, protecting this nation from terrorists at all costs or protecting these terrorist rights so they can once again act on their hatred?

President-elect Obama better think twice before erasing EVERYTHING Bush did. He did do some good.

Thank a Vet Today

November 11th is Veterans Day. It a day in which schools and government offices close to honor those who have served this country in a time of conflict.

People tend to take the service of our veterans for granted. They made the world safe for democracy, protected us after attack, prevented Communism from entering the United States and keep us us safe from terrorist attack. They have been shot at, maimed, injured and killed so we can enjoy the freedoms we currently enjoy.

So if you see a Veteran or the family member of a veteran killed in battle, be sure to stop and thank them for everything they have done for this country and more importantly for keeping you free and safe. This is the true meaning of Veterans Day.

Let me hear an OOH-RA!!!! and use this posting as a way to thank your veterans.

Jarrett Not Likely the Replacement

News has it that President – Elect Obama wants Valerie Jarrett to replace him in the Senate. This is nice, yet arrogant and is filled with a few fallacies.

First, it is not Obama’s decision, it is the Governor of Illinois. There is this thing called separation of powers & checks and balances. Obama should know that as he jumps from one branch to the other.

Second, the governor of Illinois is a Republican. Why would a Republican governor appoint a Democrat to the Senate and bring them closer to a filibuster proof majority?

I suspect that a Republican will be appointed Senator preventing a 60-seat majority.

Not Palin’s Fault (10 Mistakes Made by the GOP)

While watching the news since Barack Obama was mistakenly elected President the GOP is trying to make Sarah Palin the scapegoat for McCain’s defeat. Isn’t there something wrong with this. Why isn’t Rick Davis to blame?

Ah what the hell? I am blaming McCain and campaign chairman Rick Davis for the loss. I admit, it would be tough for any Republican to win after the economic crisis began, but there were some things the campaign could have done differently. Here are a few key mistakes made by the campaign.

1. Rolling Out Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin had a monstrous welcoming party at the national convention. The campaign failed to take advantage of this opportunity and instead became overly arrogant and stupid. They failed to utilize her strengths and never fully prepared her for the media blitzkrieg that was going to happen. You mean to tell me you didn’t think the Charlie Gibson interview was going to turn out the way it did. You have a bleeding heart liberal scolding a Vice-Presidential candidate like she was the class dunce. Should have seen this coming.

2. The Media Strategy

The campaign failed in the way it granted and handled interviews with both McCain and Palin. First, you don’t make ABC & CBS your first interviews. You know they are slanted to the left. You go with the safer, more friendly media outlets, like FOX. Second, you don’t do the interviews on tape-delay, you do them live. CBS & ABC were interviewing Palin for almost 2 hours. We only saw 45 minutes at the most. Allowing for these edits led to the unfair perception of Palin’s intelligence. After the Katie Couric debacle (a lot of this is the media director’s fault), you reigned her in. That made it look worse. The GOP should have started out with FOX, allowed for no edits and demanded live interviews. Why the campaign turned down Bill O’Reilly’s request to interview both of them is unexplainable. They could have rebound their image and viability.

3. Suspending the Campaign

While it’s noble to put your personal goals on hold to solve a national crisis, it was a huge mistake. It made McCain look like he couldn’t multitask. Obama took advantage of this. When he said a President is expected to handle many things at once, he had McCain right where he wanted him.

4. The Economic Bailout

Asking Congress and House Republicans to pass the $700 billion bailout plan after if failed the first time was bad. It was a highly unpopular idea and by taking the lead on such a plan did McCain no favors. It made him look even worse when it was discovered that AIG executive spent a chunk of that money on a luxury retreat and Congress followed it up by giving them another $38 billion.

5. Not Distancing Himself From President Bush

Why did it take son for McCain to say he’s not President Bush?? This should have been mentioned during the first debate, the convention or even earlier!!! Why wait until the 3rd debate when a number of voters have made up their minds? Obama made than connection as soon as McCain won the nomination and he made it stick. Part of it was because McCain waited until the 3rd debate before distancing himself from one of the most unpopular Presidents in American history.

6. Not Going After Those Responsible

McCain failed to make the people realize that all of this happened under a Democratically controlled Congress. This allowed the American people to accept the fact that this was Bush’s fault. He never put this on Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, or the Banking chairmen (Barney Frank in the House & Chris Dodd in the Senate).  McCain should have used one of these debates to blame the Democrats and the CEO’s of the businesses. Then he should have said with Rudy Giuliani as Attorney General & Mitt Romney as Secretary of the Treasury he would have provided the oversight Frank & Dodd failed to provide and then criminally prosecute those responsible for the crisis, including Frank & Dodd. My phrase would have been “I’ll get the bastards responsible for this and I will see to it that they go to jail for what they did to your money.” A perfect opportunity wasted.

7. Overusing the word Maverick.

The Mavericks are a basketball team. They are also likely to be found on cigarette boxes. Bipartisanship is a word that no one cares about. We don’t want Presidents to make friends with the other party. We want Presidents who are going to protect us and improve our lives before your term ends. I got tired of hearing how much of a maverick you are and how often you fought your party. Want to fight, talking about continuing the fight on terrorism.

8. Not Reminding Americans About Our Safety.

The McCain campaign really dropped the ball on this one. They focused on how Obama wants to meet with unfriendly leaders without precondition instead of reminding us about how the GOP has helped keep this nation safe after 9/11. It’s been so long that a number of Americans have forgotten about how vulnerable we are to terrorist attacks. Thanks to the GOP there haven’t been any further attacks or any suicide bombings like there are in the Middle East.

9. Lack of Emotional Control

Obama was the cooler, more composed of the candidates when it came to the debates. Granted, angry Presidents are cool, but not when it’s the result of an opponent saying something you disagree with. You can’t claim bipartisanship (not even possible) while scowling at Obama’s comments. The split screen in the third debate killed him. It reminded me of the 1960 Presidential debate between JFK & Nixon.

10. Playing to the Base

The McCain campaign spent too much time appeasing the base instead of effectively going after the independents. The base is the sure thing. They weren’t going to vote for Obama or Nader or any other minuscule third-party candidate that might be out there. Your base came out and voted for you. The independents and youth did not. The main reasons? Obama was more energetic (look at the crowds he got for his rallies) and more attentive to the youth, first time voters and the independent voters. The exit pools don’t lie.

Does this mean that McCain would have won had he not made these 10 mistakes? Probably not. Obama had a significant financial advantage (McCain could have connected this with ignoring McCain-Feingold) and a terrible economy is sure to hurt the incumbent party in power. But…..it is likely he wouldn’t have gotten his ass spanked in the way he did.

However, the GOP has to redefine itself. It has to focus on fiscal conservatism, energize the young Republicans, get its message out while not looking old and haggard. The Reagan legacy is over, move on and get young again. There are a number good, young Republicans ready to lead. Republicans are going to have to wait and hope that Obama, like Clinton & Carter, misread this “mandate” and go crazy with it. If that happens, we may see another takeover like we did in 1994. If it doesn’t happen, you might be looking at another Great Society.

No matter the case, one thing is for certain, Stop blaming Palin!!! She might be able to lead the GOP back into the promised land.

The Supreme Court Is NOT An Issue In This Election

Ladies and Gentlemen:

As I was watching this week’s debate there was a discussion regarding the nomination of Supreme Court Justices and the types of people that would be selected under each administration. McCain & Obama said their pieces and Obama went on to have a discussion on abortion and the right to choose.

What people forget is that nothing is really going to change under either administration. Here’s why:

If Barack Obama wins:

If this happens, the liberal leaning justices will either stay on the court or be replaced by liberal leaning justices. These justices wold then be easily confirmed by the Senate. The conservative justices would refuse to retire, basically staying on until they die. The oldest justices on the Supreme Court are generally liberal (Stevens, Ginsburg, Breyer), the oldest conservative is  Scalia who is 72 (older than Breyer), so death is not likely.

If John McCain wins:

If McCain wins, liberal justices would likely stay on, but because they have an older average age and a more likely to die. If McCain were to nominate a conservative justice, a democratically controlled Senate (this is a lock for 2008) would block this appointment, forcing McCain to choose a more moderate justice, preferably one that will not overturn Roe v. Wade. This would happen for any justice needing replacement.

So, no matter who wins this election, you will not see a major change in the composition of the Supreme Court. When voting, do not us the nomination process as a factor in your choice because nothing will be changed, regardless of who wins.

Why The Redskins Predict The Election

For those of you who are not football fans, let me tell you about the Redskins rule.

For the last 17 Presidential Elections, the outcome of the last Redskins home football game before the election determines who wins the election.

If the Redskins win, the current party occupying the White House, stays in the White House.  If the Redskins lose, the non-incumbent party wins the White House.

Tonight the Redskins play the Steelers. If the Redskins win, McCain is President. If the Steelers win, Obama is President.

Too bad the Redskins aren’t playing the Lions or Seahawks.

Now, we just wait and see if this holds true.
